How To Use the Asheville Steep Slope Map Tool
by BourkeGroup ~ October 22nd, 2008. Filed under: Art in Asheville, How to articles.Recently, our group came across an interesting website with mapping tools for determining if a parcel is subject to a steep slope ordinance. The tool covers Asheville and Buncombe County real estate. According to the website homepage, “mapWNC is a unique collaboration between the City of Asheville, Buncombe County, The University of North Carolina-
Asheville, and the Renaissance Computing Institute at UNC-Asheville Engagement Center.” Below is a quick overview of how to use the steep slope map tools on this website.
- Visit mapWNC
- On the right hand side of the website, you will see Map Tools. In this category, click on Steep Slope Tool.
- After reviewing the data disclaimer, click Continue.
- From the top left corner of the map tool website, Search property by PIN, owner name, or address (click the circle at the end of one of the search methods to activate this field.
- Type in the PIN, owner name, or address, then click FIND.
- Select one of the results displayed below the search field.
- Once the map reloads, you can click RUN CALCULATION within the Slope Calculation Tool below the search field.
- Review results displayed below in the Average % Slope Results.
- You may also click different map layers on the right hand side of the screen to learn more about the specific parcel you are searching.
We hope you find this mapping website helpful, and please let us know if you come across other features within this website that you would like to point out. This site is new to me as well, so I would appreciate comments you may have about this site and its features.
If you have plans to purchase or modify a parcel/property, please be sure to contact Buncombe County or the City of Asheville to review what you are permitted to do prior purchasing or making any changes to the parcel.
